Barbara P. Johnson, 82, Resident of Ocala, Florida died on January 11th, 2021 at Cates Hospice House of Marion County in Ocala, Florida.
Barbara was born on August 21, 1938 in Plymouth New Hampshire to parents Leon Dwight Parker and Bella MacLeod Parker. Barbara grew up in Gilmanton Iron Works, New Hampshire at a farm house her parents purchased the year she was born. Barbara resided in New Hampshire until she and her husband David retired from their jobs and moved to Florida in 1994.
When Barbara was 12, her mother Bella MacLeod Parker died in 1950. Then in 1952, Barbara’s father Leon D. Parker proceeded Bella in death when Barbara was 13. Her oldest sister Leona took her in and raised her. Barbara was also predeceased by a spouse Stanley P Purtell, Sr. (1983), her son Stanley P. Purtell , Jr. “skipper” (1986), Her sisters Leona Parker Golden (1997), Hazel Parker Lank (2007), and spouse David D. Johnson (2017).
Barbara was a house wife/mother for many years until the mid-1970’s when she took a job at the Pittsfield Newspaper as a secretary. Later she was hired at Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Hampshire where she established a career until her retirement.
Barbara’s life work was Child Evangelism Fellowship. She had a passion for children to know Jesus at their Lord and Savior. David and Barbara both worked at the CEF Institute in Warrenton, Missouri, were she became Director of CEF of Marion County. She led the way for Elementary schools in the county to open up After School Good News Clubs for children.
She is survived by a sister Belle Parker Rollins, her daughter Diana Purtell Record (Howard) of Ocala, FL, son Michael Purtell (Shelby) of Loudon, NH, step-daughters Jeanne Lester (Mark) of Franklin, NH, and Anne Miller (Jim) of Virginia Beach, VA. Grandchildren: Craig Thoroughgood (Jaime) of Ctr. Barnstead, NH, Todd Thoroughgood of Ctr. Barnstead, NH, Matthew Record of Ocala, FL, Seth Purtell (Monica) of Loudon, NH, Kaitlyn Purtell Delampan (Troy) of Hooksett, NH, Emily Purtell of Loudon, NH, Rachael Littlefield Officer (Michael), Christopher Littlefield, Dustin Lester, Nicholas Lester all of Franklin, NH, Abbie Miller of St. Petersburg, FL, and David Miller.

A memorial service for Barbara Johnson will be held on Thursday, February 4th, 2021 at 4:00pm at First Baptist Church Ocala.
