This is Bruce. Your dad was a natural at helping people feel welcome and comfortable. He was a master at making a story interesting and humorous. When he was in the room, everyone wanted to be in his presence. I never heard a bad word about him. He was one of my dads best friends for at least half a century. I know others would say the same. About a dozen years ago my kids came back from a week in Mountain City, and couldn't wait to tell me about "hoop snakes". That is a legendary story he told me when I was a young kid visiting at the cabin in Boone. I can speak for my whole family when I say that any mention of your dad will bring a smile to our faces. He was an original. I know he is in heaven, I and can only hope that I will see him again.

All that had the opportunity to know or meet my father knew he was a loving, caring man. He truly was a one of a kind that cared deeply for friends, family and youth of all ages. He devoted untold hours teaching and mentoring many young men and woman on how to become responsible and hard working individuals. His coaching and teaching was much more than just the classes they were taking or the sports they were playing, it was directing them and guiding them on how to live life and succeed. My father saw the potential and goodness in everyone and had the uncanny knack to make them see that, to better themselves and strive to succeed in all that they set out to achieve. My father absolutely was my idol! I know I will never be able to fill the shoes Dad walked in but will work tirelessly to try. He showed me and taught me what it takes to be a father, a grandfather, a man and a friend. To all that new the man I am speaking of, I would be honored for you to add a message of how your life was touched by this great man. I will forever miss my best friend and father. God Bless!
